Garland W. Binns, Jr. works closely with business owners, corporate officers and shareholders to provide them guidance and counsel in all aspects of banking and commercial finance law. Whether he is advising a community bank on a succession plan or working with a larger financial institution to increase its market share, Garland is sought after for his dedication to helping clients achieve their business objectives.

Before entering private practice, Garland was an accountant who specialized in securities regulation and regulatory compliance. This background informs Garland’s legal practice and gives him a better understanding of the issues his clients face. With his guidance, his clients have overcome regulatory and compliance issues, raised capital and increased profitability.

In particular, Garland has extensive experience helping clients with mergers, acquisitions, securities matters, divestitures, complex banking products, bank holding company formations and de novo bank formations.

His experience includes serving as the lead attorney for a National Banking Association in its multimillion-dollar acquisition of bank branches throughout the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Louisiana. He has also successfully represented clients before numerous securities agencies and regulatory commissions and achieved favorable results for clients through litigation in local and federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.

Throughout his 40-plus year career, Garland has shared his expertise at local and national conferences and seminars many times. He frequently speaks on matters regarding mergers, acquisitions, commercial law, securities and banking law.

In addition to his business accomplishments, Garland is the 46th person in the world to be certified by the 50 States Marathon Club, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of health and fitness, as having run a marathon (26.2 miles) in each of the 50 states in the United States.
